“Kid Finds Gun”

Gun owning TPM Reader SS sent in a note yesterday which meant a lot to me …

http://aurp.ca/?p=53

Not sure what kind of feedback you are getting on your constant drumbeat of articles about accidental child gun deaths, but, as a gun owner in gun country, I have gradually come to appreciate it.
In the gun world, there is a lot of reinforcement of the idea that gun critics are mostly irrational “hopolophobes,” and there is a lot of discounting of individual gun accidents with recourse to their statistical unlikelihood and/or what is usually a fairly obvious and egregious violation of either one of the “four rules” or the safety protocols we all like to believe we would never, ever forget to follow. (And there is something to the statistical argument: gun critics like to bemoan how many guns there are in this country, but you don’t often hear “per gun” rates of either homicide or accidental deaths–maybe to be fairest these would have to be “per gun-owner.”)
But all of this is to say that, given the horrible possibilities of even the tiniest slip up, it is good to be confronted, in the non sequiturish fashion in which you do it, with all the latest permutations of the old story of “kid finds gun.” For me personally, it is particularly effective that these just pop up in the flow of seemingly unrelated news on a site that I’m going to for a very different purpose than reading about gun deaths. That might be why it’s so effective for me, but I might occupy a rather small zone in the Venn diagram of your readers.

We’ve Got Games For Days: 7DFPS Round Up

In an attempt to make sure that no-one else is allowed to have money ever again, Blizzard announced free to play online CCG Hearthstone back in March . Using characters and lore from the rather popular World of WarCraft, the plan was for a late summer beta with a same-year release, the first part of which has now come to fruition. Momentarily available only in North America, you can sign up for a shot at a key over on Battle.net  while you wait for those bits and bytes to be shipped over the ocean. Some thoughts on what we’ve already seen of the game once you’ve become a hero.

September 7th and 8th at Sunday Suppers

But oh so happy after the incredible past ten days I’ve spent with Marta and our group gathered at El Esparragal in Andalusia. As a few students exclaimed when our small bus pulled in front of the main house, the photos on their website are far from doing justice to the beauty and warmth of the place! We are lucky! What an incredible experience we’ve had! I need a few days to gather my thoughts and rest my body, but I promise to be back with pictures and words about it all. I sense you will love it.

Bonne fête à toutes les mamans !
Mother’s Day, la fête des mères, is only celebrated on May 26th in France, but one time is never enough to show the appreciation and love I have for my mother, and for all of the things she taught me.
Including bringing me into the kitchen to cook with her.
I wish her, my mother-in-law, all my mother friends, and all of you who are lucky mums, a very happy special day! Tonight, P. is cooking Japanese for me and Lulu.
We are both happy and hungry for a bowl of beef donburi !
Comfort food at its best!

Fishing Report Funky Catch

check this out

This is not another Live Line report (Yep…been doing that for 7 out of 8 weekends now with the masses) but what I thought was a really cool catch & release on Sat. We were looking for some big Croakers (12-14 inch) that we found in the morning in E-Bay while loading up the spot. Noticed small sets of breakers up & down close to us so we split the difference and chased a few schools. Half the crew stayed with the bottom rigs, the other half cast. I was ready to switch over to casting myself when I pulled a sub-rock & a hickory shad up from the bottom. Took a pic and released it back into the water. Thought we saw a few breaking the surface but couldn’t get another one. Could have been just a Parker thing. Dave

Publicist’s Single Dream In Life For Nation To Have Wes Bentley Fever

Publicist’s Single Dream In Life For Nation To Have Wes Bentley Fever

LOS ANGELES—Saying that she wants nothing more than for her client to gain the fame and notoriety he deserves, Hollywood publicist Kelsey Schumacher told reporters Tuesday that her greatest single dream in life is for the nation to be overtaken by Wes Bentley fever. “If I don’t ever have a family, or ever get to travel, or fall in love, that will be fine as long as I can ramp up Wes Bentley’s buzz and ensure that he takes the world by storm,” Schumacher said, adding that her life will be rendered meaningless if the Jonah Hex and American Beauty actor’s face doesn’t constantly appear on the cover of celebrity gossip magazines with captions such as “Wes Bentley Shows Off His Killer Beach Bod,” “Wes Wows On The Red Carpet,” and “Behind The Scenes Of The Latest Wes Bentley Movie.” “My most deeply held hopes and wishes would be fulfilled if we somehow lived in a world where people were clamoring for all the Wes Bentley they could get, where Wes Bentley would have to turn down talk show spots because he’s been double-booked, and where directors would bend over backwards to get Wes Bentley in their projects. If that happened, my existence on this earth would make sense.” At press time, Schumacher was attempting to foster a groundswell of social media attention for her client by getting the hashtag #WBent to trend.

Email From Coworker Trying To Organize Office-Wide Social Outing So Unbearably Sad
11
ATLANTA—According to employees at Polaris Marketing, an email sent today by coworker Tim Voss, 31, trying to organize an office-wide social outing after work is just so incredibly sad. “Hey guys, this is happening, so I’ll need to know soon who’s in and who’s out so I can get tickets,” read the first message in an incredibly depressing thread of emails that reportedly included heartbreaking suggestions to eat dinner beforehand, horribly painful updates about ticketing procedures, and repeated calls for head counts, which fellow employees described as “too pathetic to even read.” “Okay, so the 6:15 show is sold out, but there’s another one at 7:45, which means we can either hang out beforehand or meet there. Does that sound good? Let me know in the next 15 minutes so I can order tickets on Fandango.” At press time, sources confirmed that numerous employees had exchanged distressed private emails with each other asking, “Are you going to this?”
